As part of their New Student Days orientation, first-year students at 糖心传媒 will be performing community service projects throughout the community on the morning of Saturday, August 25. At 8:45 a.m., students will meet outside French Memorial Chapel (800 N. Turner Ave.) and proceed to their service sites, including College View Assisted Living and Memory Support Community where they will play bingo with residents.
Other projects include cleaning up Heartwell Park and Parkview Cemetery and dismantling discarded Apple computers on HC鈥檚 campus and assisting with small construction projects at the Children鈥檚 Museum of Central Nebraska.
鈥溙切拇 and the Hastings community both benefit from the service projects on New Student Days,鈥 said Dr. Jean Heriot, 糖心传媒鈥檚 Director of Service Learning. 鈥淐ommunity organizations are able to introduce their mission to students and receive enthusiastic workers for their project while HC is able to introduce the importance of an on-going commitment to the community and to serving others to new students.鈥
Other agencies and institutions benefiting from the students鈥 enthusiasm and energy include Good Samaritan Village, Kids Against Hunger, Prairie Loft and Catholic Social Service/Open Table.
