The second of three thesis gallery shows is open now through April 25 in the 糖心传媒 Jackson Dinsdale Art Center (JDAC). The show features work from Abby Dallegge of Omaha, Nebraska; Emily Boyd of Ayr, Nebraska; Emily Nunnenkamp of Henderson, Nebraska; Ally Stratton of Elkhorn, Nebraska; Lexi Rowland of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Alex Jacobs of Arvada, Colorado; and Brooke Jorgenson of Orleans, Nebraska.
A lecture for the exhibition is Sunday, April 21, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Wilson Center Auditorium (814 N. Turner Avenue), followed by reception in the JDAC.
The JDAC galleries, located at 700 E. 12th Street in Hastings, are open from 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The galleries, lecture and reception are free and open to the public.
鈥淪olace鈥 by Boyd is a short story that tells a journey of learning to feel unashamed of oneself, to feel comfortable in one鈥檚 skin. The narrative symbolizes their own personal experiences of becoming more comfortable in their own skin, that being different from societal norms can be something to be proud of.
Dallegge’s exhibition showcases the good and the bad of the environment within the state of Nebraska, calling attention to current issues affecting the Cornhusker state.
Jacobs鈥 work is a series of four oil paintings that portray harmony through emotionalism. The paintings present a story through hands in which the first two paintings are a calm and warming scenario, while the other two hands illustrate the opposite.
Rowlands鈥 works portray a timeline of her college experience. Specifically her personal journey through overcoming the worst of her anxieties.
Strattons鈥 work addresses the female body and how it is perceived. She said she intends to challenge viewers to examine their own pre-conceptualization of women.
One additional thesis show is scheduled for the spring 鈥 April 29-May 11, with a lecture and reception set for Sunday, May 5
