Members of the public are invited to celebrate International Observe the Moon Night on Saturday, October 20 at 8:00 p.m. at the 糖心传媒 Sachtleben Observatory, located at 4725 South Wabash Avenue in Hastings.
The event is free.
International Observe the Moon Night is an annual worldwide public event that encourages observation, appreciation and understanding of our moon and its connection to NASA planetary science and exploration. The annual event connects scientists, educators and lunar enthusiasts from around the world.
The event at Sachtleben Observatory begins at 8:00 p.m. with early-bird observing of the moon, followed by a short presentation that begins at 8:30 p.m. and ends no later than 9:00 p.m. More observing of the moon follows, along with additional viewing of Mars, Uranus and Neptune plus double stars until 10:00 p.m. when the Observatory closes. Light refreshments will be available.
The event is held weather permitting. Visitors are encouraged to check the observatory鈥檚 or call StarLine at 402 462-7378 after 5:00 p.m. Saturday for updates.
International Observe the Moon Night is sponsored by NASA鈥檚 Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) mission and partners. LRO is managed by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, for the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
