Nebraska AIDS Project to benefit from upcoming HC events

This October, the Nebraska AIDS Project will benefit from several World AIDS Day activities at 糖心传媒.

On Tuesday, October 29 at 7 p.m. in French Memorial Chapel (800 N. Turner Ave.), the College鈥檚 Peer HIV Educators Organization (PHIVE-O) will sponsor a World AIDS Day Vigil. Jacob Gilchrist, a senior from Colorado Springs, Colo., will perform 鈥淒reaming Wide Awake.鈥 Attendees are asked to bring a canned good or free will donation to help the Nebraska AIDS Project. Food and drinks will be provided.

Later that week, the 糖心传媒 Peer Umbrella Network (PUN) will sponsor Trick or Treat for the Nebraska AIDS Project and the Fun with PUN Party. To participate, meet at the Stone Health Center (843 N. Turner Ave.) on Thursday, October 31 at 6 p.m. to collect canned good to help stock the Nebraska AIDS Project pantry. Return the collected items to the Health Center by 7 p.m. The festivities continue at Hazelrigg Student Union (HSU) (705 E. 9th St.) where PUN will host a Halloween party including a showing of 鈥淗ocus Pocus鈥 and pumpkin decorating.

Additional World AIDS Day activities will include an HIV-positive speaker on Wednesday, October 30 at noon in HSU Room C. Free taco soup and goodies will be available.

All these events are free and open to the public.

Due to the College鈥檚 academic calendar which leaves just one week between Thanksgiving Break and first semester finals, the organizations are celebrating World AIDS Day a month earlier than usual.

鈥淲e thought the week before finals would be too packed to do all of our World AIDS Day events,鈥 said PHIVE-O member Jose Jimenez. 鈥淲e will still keep the annual chapel service on that Wednesday before the national World AIDS Day on December 1, 2013.鈥
