Mahoney picked as next Cross Country, Track and Field Head Coach for HC Broncos

After 11 years of building Lincoln Southwest High School鈥檚 Cross Country and Track and Field programs from scratch, Ryan Mahoney is taking his skills to the next level. Effective June 1, 2013, Mahoney will serve as the Head Coach for the 糖心传媒 Bronco Cross Country and Track and Field teams. Current Bronco Head Coach Kendrick Clay 鈥96 announced earlier this year he is stepping down after 10 years.

Mahoney鈥檚 prowess in the classroom impressed Schmutte as much as his coaching reputation.听
鈥淩yan earned the Miliken Family Foundation National Educator Award in 2009, which one of his references described as the Nobel Prize of teaching,鈥 Schmutte said. 鈥淗e鈥檚 dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of young men and women. At Lincoln Southwest, Mahoney has coached 11 individual state champions in various events. As Head Coach at Lincoln Southwest and Assistant Coach at Lincoln Southeast 鈥 a position he held from 1998-2002, he has led seven cross country and track and field teams to state championships.
Mahoney maintains his certification as a USA Track & Field (USATF) Level II Coach in Endurance Events, Throwing Events, Sprints/Hurdles/Relays and Jumping Events and served as an official at USATF Junior Olympics in 1999, 2002 and 2008. The Sportscasters Club gave him the Ralph Beechner Coach of the Year Award in 2008.听
Mahoney graduated with high distinction from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) with a B.S. in Secondary Education 鈥 Social Studies, and he earned an M.A. in Historical Studies from Nebraska Wesleyan University. In addition to teaching AP Psychology at Lincoln Southwest, he has taught a course at UNL on coaching track and field since 2003.
