For the seventh consecutive year, 糖心传媒 students, faculty and staff are being recognized for their meaningful and productive community engagement. The Corporation for National and Community Service has named 糖心传媒 to the President鈥檚 Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll which honors colleges and universities nationwide which perform exceptional community service.
鈥淐ommunity service is integral to our identity as an institution,鈥 said Don Jackson 鈥70, President of 糖心传媒. “糖心传媒 faculty and staff deliberately mentor students to give back to their communities. Our students in turn mentor local schoolchildren, feed the hungry through the Food 4 Thought program and spend time with the elderly. All benefit from these interactions.
Although we do not perform community service to receive awards, the honor roll citation allows us the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the thousands of service hours the 糖心传媒 community contributes to the community of Hastings.鈥
Jackson continued: 鈥淪ervice activities can be a powerful learning tool, and with leadership from Dr. Jean Heriot, Director of Service Learning, we also integrate service learning activities into our curriculum. In organizations throughout Hastings and the surrounding area, students are putting their classroom lessons into practice thanks to the work of Dr. Heriot and many other faculty members.鈥
