Forensics Team takes third in individual sweepstakes at Halloween Swing

The Hastings Forensics Team had an exciting time at the Halloween Swing hosted by University of Nebraska鈥揙maha and Doane University October 27-28. In addition to the forensics competition, there were many festivities and games held in tune with the event鈥檚 theme.

Senior Carly Spotts-Falzone placed first in overall Individual Sweepstakes, and junior Alli Kennon placing second in overall Individual Sweepstakes. The whole team saw considerable success in their individual events, and took home third place in Team Sweepstakes with only six members 鈥 despite competing against schools like George Mason University, Bradley University and California State University鈥揕ong Beach.

The results are as follows:

October 27 results:

  • Sam Burke, a sophomore from Denver, Colorado, placed sixth in Impromptu Speaking.
  • Courtney Hansen, a sophomore from Brookings, South Dakota, placed fourth in After Dinner Speaking.
  • Nathan Navratil, a junior from Lino Lakes, Minnesota, placed third in Informative Speaking.
  • Alli Kennon, a junior from Lakeville, Minnesota, placed first in Dramatic Interpretation, second in Prose Interpretation, first in Duo Interpretation with Carly Spotts-Falzone, a senior from Wayzata, Minnesota, and second in Individual Sweepstakes.
  • Carly Spotts-Falzone, a senior from Wayzata, Minnesota, placed first in Poetry Interpretation and first in Duo Interpretation with Alli Kennon, a junior from Lakeville, Minnesota.

October 28 results

  • Sam Burke, a sophomore from Denver, Colorado, placed fifth in Impromptu Speaking and sixth in Prose Interpretation.
  • Courtney Hansen, a sophomore from Brookings, South Dakota, placed first in After Dinner Speaking and first in Poetry Interpretation.
  • Nathan Navratil, a junior from Lino Lakes, Minnesota, placed third in Impromptu Speaking and fourth in Informative Speaking.
  • Alli Kennon, a junior from Lakeville, Minnesota, placed first in Duo Interpretation with Carly Spotts-Falzone, a senior from Wayzata, Minnesota, second in Communication Analysis and second in overall Individual Sweepstakes.
  • Carly Spotts-Falzone, a senior from Wayzata, Minnesota, placed first in Program Oral Interpretation, first in Dramatic Interpretation, first in Duo Interpretation with Alli Kennon, a junior from Lakeville, Minnesota, first in Individual Sweepstakes and first in Overall Individual Sweepstakes.

The team took third in Individual Sweepstakes.

The 糖心传媒 forensics team continues a long-running tradition of national competitive success, placing in the top 20 at the American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament (AFA-NIET) for many of the past ten years. Most recently, 糖心传媒 placed 8th at AFA-NIET 2018.
