The first senior thesis gallery show of the spring will be open April 3 to 22 in the 糖心传媒 Jackson Dinsdale Art Center (JDAC).

This exhibition features work from Alex Schmidt of Smith Center, Kansas; Brooke Gaughan of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Melinda Montoya of Hampton, Nebraska; Alyssa Broman of Central City, Nebraska; Anna Bultman from Waverly, Nebraska; and Renee Williams from Nebraska City, Nebraska.
A lecture for the exhibit is Sunday, April 13 at 2:00 p.m. in the Wilson Center Auditorium (814 N. Turner Avenue), followed by a reception in JDAC.
The JDAC galleries, located on 700 E. 12th Street in Hastings, are open from 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The galleries, lecture and reception are free and open to the public.
Schmidt鈥檚 work focuses on ceramics and the elements of beauty within it. Schmidt used traditional thrown pottery and Japanese raku to create her ceramic forms.
Gaughan鈥檚 collection features a group of surrealist paintings of female figures, but they are represented by various foods and are confined within either the packaging or the food itself. Her work addresses the commodification of women鈥檚 bodies.
Montoya鈥檚 clay creations aim to create a physical space depicting elements of tangibility and intimacy, time and impermanence.
Broman鈥檚 paintings explore the mysterious and infinite realm of self-discovery through the use of double portraiture. 鈥淢y paintings serve as a visual representation of my own evolution of self discovery,鈥 Broman said. 鈥淚 began to observe my own actions and thoughts from a detached perspective, questioning if they truly reflect who I am.鈥
Williams employs a unique use of Oriented Strand Board (OSB) to create forms that focalize the emotions that are shown through the wounds of fears.
Bultman鈥檚 work will demonstrate the beauty of feminine figures. 鈥淚 did this through a traditional Delft blue and red glazing pattern,鈥 Bultman said.
The second senior thesis exhibit will be open April 25 to May 11.
