(Hastings, Neb.) – After 24 years, Jim Boeve has resigned as Head Coach of the Ĵý Baseball team to take additional responsibilities with the College. Boeve will be responsible for Ĵý’s institutional research. He will remain on the faculty as Assistant Professor of Sociology and maintain his current course load.
“Given his professional expertise in statistics and his deep affinity for Ĵý, Jim is a great fit for this position,” said Dr. Gary Johnson, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Ĵý. “The information he will compile and analyze is necessary for us to remain in compliance with our accrediting bodies and the federal government and also to get a better understanding of how well we are doing our jobs and how we can better serve our students.”
Boeve’s appointment as Head Coach of Bronco Baseball in 1989 marked the return of the sport to Ĵý after a 15 year absence. During his tenure, which included seasons from 1989-90 through 2012-13, Boeve amassed a record of 572-635, led the Broncos to seven NIAC/GPAC Conference Championships, two NIAC/GPAC Tournament Championships and earned the admiration of his peers around the country. Boeve was inducted into the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service in 2010. In 2012, he received the Robert E. “Ish” Smith Achievement Award from the NAIA for his meritorious service to collegiate baseball.
“Jim has embodied the best baseball has to offer. He has a deep understanding of the game and an abiding interest in the well-being of his players, on and off the field,” said Jerry Schmutte, Athletic Director at Ĵý. “We will miss his leadership, professionalism and humor in the Athletic Department.”
Schmutte said the search for a new Head Coach of Bronco Baseball will begin immediately.
