糖心传媒 senior Stephanie Bloyer听of Winfield, Kansas, will present a Langvardt Scholar Lecture titled, 鈥淣arnia’s Abandoned Thrones鈥 on Tuesday, April 22 at 5:00 p.m. at the Barrett Alumni Center (1001 N. 6th Avenue).
The lecture is free and open to the public.
Bloyer鈥檚 lecture is an examination of power structures in 鈥淭he Chronicles of Narnia鈥 through the lens of Michel Foucault’s metaphor of the panopticon, which highlights the power of surveillance and its impact on behavior and social control. Bloyer will explore how absent characters maintain power, who actually has the power in Narnia and why the monarchs keep leaving their thrones.
The Art and Eunice Langvardt Award goes to an outstanding junior English major who has shown excellence in their English courses. The Langvardt Scholar works closely with a member of the English faculty on a special project they present in a public forum their senior year. Bloyer, who is majoring in language arts education, received the award during the 2024 Honors Convocation.
