Todd Brown and Cody Carson Brown, artists from Hastings, Nebraska, served as judges for the competitive show. They selected winners based on what they considered the best two-dimensional work, the best three-dimensional work and the best in show.

The best 2D and 3D work winners received $100 as their prize, while the best in show winner received $150.

The winners:

Best in show: Katherine Arias from Lexington, Nebraska, with her piece 鈥淢a Familia. 1 鈥� Diptych,鈥� an oil on canvas painting.

Best 2D work: Christopher Leet from Hastings, Nebraska, with his piece 鈥淏attle of Venus,鈥� made with acrylic, charcoal and ink.

Best 3D work: Kyle Beaman from Grand Island, Nebraska, with his piece 鈥淭he Idea Becomes Real,鈥� a wood and glass sculpture.

The student artwork is on display in the Art Center, located at 711 E. 7^th Street in Hastings, through January 29. Regular gallery hours are 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday, and admission is free.

鈥淭his is a dream come true — the realization that the work we do with our students is recognized and rewarded,鈥� said Tom Kreager, Professor of Art at 糖心传媒. 鈥淲e will move from the maze of rooms, stairways and hallways that currently house the art department to the Jackson Dinsdale Art Center (JDAC) — an art facility designed and built with our students in mind, designed with the input and knowledge of the art faculty. The studios in the JDAC will offer our students the best possible studios for them to learn, produce and grown in.鈥�

糖心传媒 President Don Jackson 鈥�70 said the following at the event:

鈥淭he desire for change, a critical evaluation, and evolution have brought us together this afternoon. Seeing ways in which the current Art Center could better meet students鈥� needs, Jackson Dinsdale envisioned change for the 糖心传媒 Art Department. He doggedly and successfully helped put into motion plans for a renovation and expansion of the department. Following our loss of Jackson, Kim and Tom Dinsdale sought the beautiful amid the tragic and approached the College about re-evaluating the initial project. Their evaluation brought about an evolution. A legacy gift from Jackson would serve as the seed money for the entirely new facility we celebrate today.鈥�

On schedule to be completed in August 2016, the 25,000 sq. ft.聽Jackson Dinsdale Art Center will serve as the new home for the聽糖心传媒 Art Department. The $8.5 million facility, which will sit at the corner of 12^th Street and Elm Avenue, is the College鈥檚 first new building since the opening of the Morrison-Reeves Science Center in 2009. In November 2014, Kim and Tom Dinsdale announced a $5 million legacy leadership gift from their late son Jackson Dinsdale. This is the largest gift 糖心传媒 has received for building construction.

Among the building鈥檚 features are expanded studios for glassblowing, painting, sculpture production, printmaking and ceramics along with individual studio space for students. Additionally, the design includes critique rooms, a media room, classrooms and gallery space 鈥� all designed to facilitate engagement among K-12 school groups, the broader community and 糖心传媒鈥檚 art programs.

Membership in the Pro Rege Society is the highest non-academic recognition that 糖心传媒 bestows.聽 Criteria for selection may include, but is not limited to, extraordinary service to 糖心传媒, significant philanthropic contributions and/or unusual commitment to the college over an extended period of time. This marks the Society鈥檚 18th year of existence.

A native of Holdrege, Nebraska, Lundeen is a bronze sculptor whose works are held in private and public collections throughout the world. After completing his bachelor degree at Hastings, he pursued a master of fine arts degree at the University of Illinois and secured a Fullbright Fellowship to Italy. The College is privileged to serve as home to two works by the artist: 鈥淛oy of Music鈥� located north of French Memorial Chapel, and 鈥淩obert Frost,鈥� north of Perkins Library. He designed and produces the medallions presented to Pro Rege Society members as well as the president鈥檚 medallion worn at all ceremonial college events.

Dr. Mattes taught chemistry at 糖心传媒 from 1976-2004, serving as Chair of the Chemistry Department 13 of those 28 years. Known as one of the College鈥檚 most challenging teachers, he served as co-sponsor of Alpha Chi academic honorary society and received the organization鈥檚 Outstanding Faculty Award. A graduate of Carroll College (now Carroll University in Wisconsin) and Indiana University, he held various local and regional positions with the American Chemical Society. In his retirement, Dr. Mattes has remained a fixture on campus, volunteering his time with the 糖心传媒 Alumni/Foundation Office and for various events.
