Blankenship, a theatre major and christian ministry student from Queen Creek, Arizona, graduated May 9. The assembly takes place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, June 22 through July 2.

The General Assembly is the church鈥檚 highest council, meeting every two years to act as a representative voice for the entire denomination. While most voting commissioners are elders, the church established the YAAD category in 1970 to ensure younger generations have a direct say in church business.

“It鈥檚 an honor to serve the church in any capacity at this level,” said Rev. Doodle Harris, 糖心传媒 chaplain. 鈥淲atching Maxwell embrace their faith life and their sense of leadership within the church has been inspiring.鈥 Harris, who will also represent the College at the assembly, encouraged Blankenship to apply for the role.

Blankenship is one of about 50 young adults nationwide chosen for this position. They鈥檒l have the opportunity to influence church leaders on topics ranging from theology to current events.

Throughout the meetings, Blankenship will debate resolutions and amendments on the assembly floor, advise commissioners on key committee decisions, and even lead worship and opening prayers.

By participating in these sessions, Blankenship ensures that the ideas and voices of young people are heard by those making the church鈥檚 most significant decisions.

Blankenship plans to attend Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in the fall.

Shelbourn gift brings Willa Cather bronze to 糖心传媒 /news/shelbourn-gift-brings-willa-cather-bronze-to-hastings-college/ Mon, 27 Apr 2026 18:57:36 +0000 /?p=51768 On Saturday, April 25, 糖心传媒 held a special ceremony to unveil a Willa Cather statuette, a scale replica of the bronze statue representing Nebraska in the National Statuary Hall Collection in the U.S. Capitol.

Cather donation Shelbourn 26w
Rev. Jimmy Shelbourn and his spouse Carol donated the Willa Cather bronze to 糖心传媒 on April 25. They are shown here with the statue鈥檚 artist, Littleton Alston (center).

Rev. Jimmy Shelbourn, a 1976 糖心传媒 alumnus, and his spouse Carol, gifted the 18-inch bronze to the College to ensure that Cather鈥檚 legacy and the artistry of the sculptor remain accessible to the Hastings community and future generations of students. The Shelbourns are longtime supporters of 糖心传媒 and Jimmy has spent his career in ministry and service, maintaining a lifelong passion for the literature and history of his home state.

The original monumental statue, which debuted in Washington, D.C., in 2023, was created by Littleton Alston. Alston is a professor of sculpture at Creighton University. Alston attended the event and shared his perspective on the piece.

WillaCather statue 26wThe piece captures the Pulitzer Prize-winning author in her prime, striding across the Nebraska prairie with a walking stick in one hand and a pen and sheaf of papers in the other. Every detail 鈥 from the western meadowlark emerging from the goldenrod at her feet to the snake ring on her finger 鈥 tells the story of Cather鈥檚 connection to the landscape and her creative genius that fueled classics like 鈥淢y 脕ntonia鈥 and 鈥淥 Pioneers!鈥

Jimmy Shelbourn talked on the legacy of literature and those who influenced during his time at 糖心传媒, and Dr. Steve Shively, a Cather teacher and scholar who served for more than 20 years on the Willa Cather Foundation board, shared the Cather connection to Hastings.

Opening remarks were provided by Ashley Olson, executive director of the National Willa Cather Center in Red Cloud, and Dr. Rich Lloyd, president of 糖心传媒.

“Willa Cather鈥檚 work evokes a sense of place and resilience that is central to the identity of Nebraska,” Lloyd said. “We are grateful to Jimmy and Carol for this gift, which serves as a beautiful intersection of art, history and the enduring spirit of the Great Plains.”
